Climate-Smart Agricultural Practices and Crop Yield Among Smallholder Farmers

Evaluates how climate-smart practices affect crop yields of smallholder farmers.

About this project

This project evaluates the adoption and yield effect of climate-smart agricultural practices — drought-tolerant varieties, mulching, minimum tillage and water harvesting — among smallholder farmers. It compares yields of adopters and non-adopters and identifies the extension, credit and information constraints limiting wider adoption.

Methodology

Field survey

Chapters 1–5 outline

Chapter 1

Introduction: background to climate-smart agriculture, statement of the problem (erratic rainfall is cutting smallholder yields while proven adaptive practices remain under-adopted), aim and objectives, research questions, scope, significance of the study, and definition of terms.

Chapter 2

Literature Review: theoretical framework, review of related works on climate-smart agriculture, gaps in existing studies, and a summary positioning this project.

Chapter 3

Methodology / System Analysis and Design: survey design; yield measurement; adoption index construction. Includes data collection method, system requirements, use-case and architecture diagrams (or population, sample size, and instrument).

Chapter 4

Implementation and Results: yield comparisons and adoption constraint analysis. Presentation of findings, testing, evaluation, and discussion of results.

Chapter 5

Summary, Conclusion and Recommendations: key findings, contribution to knowledge, limitations, and recommendations for further research.
