About this project
This project designs and constructs a GSM-based prepaid smart energy meter. The system measures consumption with a current and voltage sensing stage, deducts credit in real time, allows remote recharge via SMS, sends low-credit alerts and disconnects load automatically at zero balance — addressing estimated billing disputes and revenue loss for utilities.
Suggested tech stack
- Arduino / PIC microcontroller
- GSM module (SIM800)
- Current & voltage sensors
- Relay switching
Chapters 1–5 outline
Chapter 1
Introduction: background to prepaid smart metering, statement of the problem (estimated billing breeds disputes and revenue leakage for power utilities), aim and objectives, research questions, scope, significance of the study, and definition of terms.
Chapter 2
Literature Review: theoretical framework, review of related works on prepaid smart metering, gaps in existing studies, and a summary positioning this project.
Chapter 3
Methodology / System Analysis and Design: engineering design; microcontroller programming; GSM module integration. Includes data collection method, system requirements, use-case and architecture diagrams (or population, sample size, and instrument).
Chapter 4
Implementation and Results: a tested prototype meter with remote recharge and automatic disconnection. Presentation of findings, testing, evaluation, and discussion of results.
Chapter 5
Summary, Conclusion and Recommendations: key findings, contribution to knowledge, limitations, and recommendations for further research.
