Midwifery Practices and Maternal Mortality Reduction in Primary Health Centres

Examines how skilled midwifery practices in primary health centres contribute to reducing maternal mortality.

About this project

This project investigates the relationship between midwifery practices — antenatal screening, birth preparedness counselling and emergency obstetric referral — and maternal outcomes in primary health centres. It draws on facility records and interviews with midwives to identify which practices most strongly predict safe deliveries, and where training gaps remain.

Methodology

Cross-sectional survey

Chapters 1–5 outline

Chapter 1

Introduction: background to midwifery and maternal mortality, statement of the problem (maternal deaths remain high where deliveries are attended by unskilled personnel), aim and objectives, research questions, scope, significance of the study, and definition of terms.

Chapter 2

Literature Review: theoretical framework, review of related works on midwifery and maternal mortality, gaps in existing studies, and a summary positioning this project.

Chapter 3

Methodology / System Analysis and Design: descriptive cross-sectional design; facility record review; midwife interviews. Includes data collection method, system requirements, use-case and architecture diagrams (or population, sample size, and instrument).

Chapter 4

Implementation and Results: statistical association between midwifery practices and maternal outcomes. Presentation of findings, testing, evaluation, and discussion of results.

Chapter 5

Summary, Conclusion and Recommendations: key findings, contribution to knowledge, limitations, and recommendations for further research.
